WHAT IS ZAKAT AL FITR? Zakat Al Fitr is a donation to charity given on the last day of Ramadan or before the Eid-El Fitr Prayers. All Muslims are obliged to give to the poor at Eid al-Fitr, young and old, male and female. They must also give to the poor before the Eid prayer, Salat which is said together in a Mosque before the Eid celebrations. Muslims can give Zakat, which is help from the rich to the poor, one or two days before the Eid prayer, but not after. If you give it before the prayer it is considered Zakat al-Fitr and if you give it after the Eid prayer it is considered ordinary charity . Zakat al-Fitr should be given in the form of food as the prophet did. The amount of Zakat is the same for everyone regardless of how wealthy they are.
